Unlike any other day in Los Angeles, a storm-like wind blew in over the mountains, bringing new life into the ordinary sunny California day. It wasn't just by chance, it was the quiet power of singer/songwriter Brie Stoner. In town for a stellar performance at Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, she performed tracks from her Delicate Hour EP just released August 3rd. There was an organic collaboration unfolding on stage that I haven't witnessed in a long time. Lost in her music, I found myself in total inspiration.

Thank you for your ongoing support of The Pretty Rough and Tough project. I started it to bring awareness to my amazingly talented friends, but it has become larger than that. It's a platform for expression, a vehicle for long-deserved creative exposure and has also birthed a new way of life all represented in four words: pretty rough and tough. The PR&T is the most adventurous photographic and film project I've ever done, and it requires a lot of passion, production, equipment and time - so I thank you again for bearing with me as I post as many features as I humanly can.
Running the website in a "blog" format allows readers to just scroll down and discover. Without much action, you can view the work of talented artists, take a look into their personal and creative lives and even possibly become a fan!
I recently teamed up with The Equation, an organization in Los Angeles that supports the development of creatives in the photo industry. We're now holding monthly parties across the city that formulate a community made up of emerging talent. The PR&T will also be throwing a large get together and exhibition in September. So stay tuned for invites!
Professionally shooting for 7 years now, I started this project in May 2010 on a Flip Cam. Although it had severe limitations, it was honestly a great tool that allowed me to initiate an idea. With the expansion of the PR&T, I was able to get new equipment! All future videos will be shot in true 1080p crisp video with Canon's new 550D (for the experts: it has the exact filming technology of the 7D and 5D!). Sound recording equipment is my next upgrade, so I hope you will be forgiving until I purchase my Sennheiser MX4 (to eliminate wind noise).
If you like this project, please add The Pretty Rough and Tough on Facebook, Twitter, and check out the Contribute page to find out how you can get involved!
Garet Field Sells
The Pretty Rough and Tough creator
Looking for the first photographer feature on the Pretty Rough and Tough, I wanted to showcase an artist who not only was extremely talented, but also represented an energy that captured an essence of humanity. A good friend, Heather Kincaid, immediately came to mind. So I searched her incredible photography blog and website, both filled with joyous moments, humor, love and unmeasurable amounts of vivacious compassion and had to share it with you.
